All These Things That We Have Done

2017
As I sat in the hospital watching someone I care for in agony and pain, I looked out the window. I could see strangers in the opposite wing either in bed or being visited by family, and I began to ponder how many other people were in similar circumstances. I’ve often imagined, if I had the super power of being all-seeing and all-knowing, minus the ability to change things, would my perspective of humanity change for the better or for the worse? Are strangers’ lives any better or worse than what I have experienced? In a 24-hour period are there more positive experiences than negative experiences in the world? Or vice versa. Do good years outweigh bad years on an average?
The images are the catalyst for the questions above.
